Welcome to the new website for Beckett Choir! Thank you for visiting to find out more about us.

Beckett Choir is a community choir based in Leeds, bringing together singers from across the city and other local areas, led by Musical Director Kerry Prest. Many of our members either work or study at Leeds Beckett University, where the choir is fortunate to rehearse each week, while other members come to us from the community.

The choir performs a wide variety of music, from musical theatre and classical, to popular and folk. In the past, our main concert of the year has traditionally been in December, where for several years we were joined by Phoenix Concert Band in order to perform a programme of festive music. We have also hosted smaller, more intimate events over the years, and can be requested to perform at local conferences and fundraising events.

Previous years have seen us perform a varied programme including Vivaldi’s Gloria, hits from the West End and Broadway, Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, English traditional music and even Beyoncé! We’ve also performed pieces by Sting and The Beatles, hits from Hair and Rent, ‘Dry Your Tears, Afrika’ from Amistad, and the classical pieces ‘Abide With Me’ and ‘Oh Shenandoah.’

We usually divide into a four-part choir (soprano = high female voice, alto = lower female voice, tenor = high male voice, and bass = deeeeeep male voice!), and welcome new members! If you are interested in joining Beckett Choir, please see our Join Us page for more information.
